A sluice sink is a specialist sanitary disposal unit used in healthcare environments for the hygienic disposal of body waste from items such as bedpans, urine bottles, vomit bowls and drainage bags. It incorporates a flushing disposal bowl connected to a manual cistern and drainage system.
A DU is a compact disposal-only unit. A DUH combines the disposal bowl with a drainer or work surface. A DUHS combines the disposal bowl with a separate sink bowl and drainer/work surface.
A top-entry sluice sink is normally used with an exposed cistern mounted above the unit. A back-entry sluice sink is normally used with a concealed cistern installed behind the wall, IPS panel or within a service duct.
When replacing an existing unit, it is usually easiest to match the existing flush arrangement unless the plumbing is being changed.
The handing refers to the position of the sluice disposal bowl when standing in front of the unit. Handing is particularly important when ordering DUH and DUHS models, as the position of the bowl, sink and drainer needs to suit the room layout and services.
A P trap provides a horizontal outlet, while an S trap provides a vertical outlet. The correct option depends on the direction of the site's drainage connection.
Current H-Series models use a 110mm plain spigot outlet, with compatible P and S traps available for connection to standard 100mm soil pipework.
Cistern requirements vary by product and installation. Exposed stainless steel, exposed plastic and concealed plastic cisterns are available, and the correct cistern should be selected to match the sluice sink's top- or back-entry flush connection. Check the individual product specification to confirm exactly what is included.

Top Entry & Back Entry Sluice Sinks
Both top-entry and back-entry sluice sinks are available.
Top-entry models are normally used with an exposed cistern mounted above the unit, while back-entry models are normally used where the cistern and associated pipework are concealed within a service duct, behind a wall or behind an IPS panel.
When replacing an existing sluice sink, matching the existing flush arrangement is usually the simplest option unless the plumbing is also being altered.
