Bariatric Toilet – Heavy Duty Stainless Steel WC Pan

Product Code BAR

Heavy duty stainless steel bariatric toilet, manufactured from 2mm thick stainless steel and static load tested to 2,447kg (5,394lbs). Designed for bariatric users and specialist accessible washrooms where increased strength, stability and durability are essential.

The bariatric WC pan features a wide, stable floor-standing design, with the base extending to the same width as the top of the toilet. Unlike conventional WC pans that narrow towards the floor, this provides a broad supporting footprint for improved stability. Combined with secure wall and floor fixings, the design provides a robust installation for demanding bariatric and accessible washroom environments.

The toilet has undergone extensive manufacturer load testing and is supported by European Standard EN 997 flushing performance testing and a manufacturer's Declaration of Conformity.

Available with either rear or top entry flushpipe connections for use with concealed or exposed cisterns.

Manufactured Within Our Partner Group

The BAR bariatric toilet is manufactured by Acorn Engineering, part of our international partner group of companies. This is not simply a third-party product sourced from an unrelated manufacturer, but an established design manufactured within our wider group.

Our direct relationship with the manufacturer provides access to original technical specifications, product development information and supporting test documentation, including the manufacturer's 1,000kg working load specification, 2,447kg static load test and EN 997 performance testing.

Bariatric Toilet Load Testing – 2,447kg

Unlike conventional ceramic WC pans, the BAR bariatric toilet is manufactured from heavy duty stainless steel and designed to provide additional structural strength for demanding applications.

The full-width base is an important feature of the toilet's structural design. By maintaining the same width from the seating area down to the floor, the toilet provides a broad supporting footprint rather than relying on a narrower pedestal. This design, together with the heavy duty stainless steel construction and secure fixing arrangement, contributes to the toilet's overall stability.

The manufacturer's documented static load testing was carried out on the floor-standing bariatric toilet (manufacturer's model WH2125A).

During testing, a combined load of 2,447kg (5,394lbs) was applied to the toilet for a continuous period of 10 minutes.

Following removal of the load:

  • No visible permanent damage was identified.
  • No structural failure was recorded.
  • No noticeable change in the measured seat height was detected.
  • The toilet successfully completed the manufacturer's static load test.

The toilet is also supported by EN 997 testing documentation, including a separate 4kN static load test maintained for one hour, with no permanent deformation, cracking or weld failure recorded.

These results provide documented evidence of the strength of the stainless steel WC pan, offering additional reassurance to architects, healthcare specifiers, occupational therapists and facilities managers.

Important: The 2,447kg figure represents a manufacturer-applied static test load and should not be interpreted as the recommended maximum user weight or safe working load. The load capacity of the complete installation will depend on the toilet seat, fixings, supporting surfaces and installation arrangement.

EN 997 European Standard – Flushing Performance

In addition to structural load testing, the bariatric toilet is supported by manufacturer testing carried out in accordance with EN 997:2012+A1:2015, the European standard for WC pans and WC suites with integral traps.

The documented testing covers a range of performance requirements, including:

  • 6 litre flushing performance – tested with a nominal full-flush volume of 6 litres.
  • Bowl washing efficiency – successful testing of the flushing system's ability to clean the internal bowl surface.
  • Toilet paper clearance – successful removal of the required quantity of toilet paper in four out of five tests.
  • Solid waste simulation – successful plastic-ball clearance testing, with all five tests exceeding the specified minimum clearance requirement.
  • Water seal depth – measured at 63.5mm, exceeding the 50mm minimum requirement.
  • Oversplash prevention – successful testing to assess water splashing beyond the toilet bowl.
  • Water tightness – no leakage recorded from the WC pan, cistern or their connection during testing.
  • Structural load resistance – successful one-hour static load testing at approximately 4kN.

The manufacturer has also issued a Declaration of Conformity covering the relevant EN 997 performance characteristics.

This supporting technical documentation provides valuable information when specifying a bariatric WC for healthcare, accessible washroom and specialist accommodation projects.

Designed for Bariatric and Accessible Washrooms

The BAR bariatric toilet is suitable for installations requiring a robust alternative to standard ceramic sanitaryware.

Typical applications include:

  • Hospitals and bariatric healthcare facilities.
  • Care homes and nursing homes.
  • Assisted living accommodation.
  • Local authority disabled toilet adaptations.
  • Occupational therapy projects.
  • Specialist accessible washrooms.
  • Residential adaptations for heavier users.
  • Healthcare and rehabilitation facilities.

The substantial stainless steel construction and wide floor-standing base make the toilet particularly suitable for environments where additional strength and stability are required.

The appropriate WC height, seat and supporting equipment should be selected to meet the needs of the individual user and the requirements of the installation.

Cistern and Flushpipe Connections

The bariatric toilet is available with two alternative flushpipe arrangements to suit different installation requirements.

Rear Entry – Concealed Cistern

A rear entry flushpipe connection allows the toilet to be installed back to wall with a concealed cistern positioned behind the wall or within a suitable service void.

Top Entry – Exposed Cistern

A top entry flushpipe connection allows the toilet to be installed with an exposed cistern and flushpipe, providing convenient access to the flushing components for maintenance.

Both arrangements retain the toilet's substantial floor-standing base and secure wall and floor fixing design.

Optional Heavy Duty Toilet Seat

The bariatric toilet can be supplied with an optional Big John heavy duty toilet seat and cover, load tested to 500kg.

The Big John seat provides a wider seating area than a conventional toilet seat and is designed for bariatric applications.

The seat is available as an additional option and is not included with the standard WC pan unless selected.

Please note that the load testing of the stainless steel toilet pan and the load testing of the toilet seat are separate. The maximum recommended user weight for the complete installation must take account of the seat, fixings and installation method.
